Ya at eeh, I’m Pearl Curley. I would like to share a little joy with you all, through zoom, November is Native American Heritage Month. With that said I would like to say “Hózhó Náhodoodlee?”.

Office of Native & Spiritual Medicine (ONSM) would like to bring an event to your community. ONSM promotes Navajo Cultural teachings and Winter Stories in various ways through Positive Kinship Role Model.

We have presenters with various background and talent, the zoom event will be from November 16 -20 from 12pm to 1pm. I

hope you all can enjoy life’s simple moments stopping in the middle of what you are doing, sit back and relax.

Flute Player & Motivational Speaker

Michael Adams, personal development trainer, speaker and author of "A Warrior's Mindset: A Training Guide for Cultivating a Mindset for Greatness" inspires others to connect with their heart and grow from within. Founder of Next Wave Warrior, a personal transformation business has the simple mission of "inspiring and encouraging people how to grow and strive for wellness." Michael loves working with people and currently serves as a school counselor for K-6.

Michael will be playing a natural cherry wood flute. Michael's style of playing comes directly from the state of emotion he is in. He is self-taught and has since used his flute music to induce healing and internal enlightenment. The vibrations of happiness can be felt through music and Flute offers the same vibrations of calmness and gratitude. Michael will teach how to use music to shift your internal state.

She is the Red Cheek Clan, born for the Towering House clan, her Maternal Grandparents are the Red Running into the Water Clan, and her Paternal Grandparents are the Mexican People Clan.

Talibah Begay full Dine’ (Navajo), comes from a small town near the Four Corners called Shiprock, NM within the great Navajo Nation. At the age of 13 years old Talibah released her first album titled “Talibah’s Traditional Songs”, at the age of 14 years old she released her second album titled “Talibah’s Salute the Veterans” and at the age of 16 years old she released her third album titled “Navajo Songs for the Children”. Talibah’s first album was nominated in two categories of “Best Female” and Best Traditional’ in the NAMMYY’s (Native American Music Awards) held in Niagara Falls, NY in 2005,

Talibah was raised with the value of the Navajo culture, attending various ceremonies with both her maternal and paternal grandparents, with the values and teachings instilled in her she promotes her cultural background.

Valencia Edgewater
Pinon, AZ

Best Practices for teaching and learning Dine’ Language in Homes and for home schools

Mrs. Edgewater started out a teacher by teaching community-based Navajo language and culture classes and now she works with Pinon Unified School District. After earning a master’s degree in bilingual multicultural education from Northern Arizona University, Valencia started using her training to pass on the Navajo language, which she began learning in childhood from her grandmother and aunt, to community members and visitors. Valencia teaches through immersion, speaking entirely in Navajo and focusing on ways of thought. Through gestures, images, and the natural environment, Valencia invites her students to learn.
